libinput 1.32 Released With Circular Scrolling Support For Circular Touchpads

Leading Linux input expert Peter Hutterer announced the release today of libinput 1.32 for improving input handling on Wayland and X.Org based environments.

The main feature of libinput 1.32 is enabling support for circular scrolling on circular touchpads. Yes, circular touchpads are a thing but not too common and intended for moving your finger in a circular motion to vertically scroll.

With libinput 1.32 the only device where this circular scrolling is used is for the touchpad on the Panasonic CF-SV1 laptop as an aging Tigerlake era laptop.

In addition to circular scrolling, libinput 1.32 now automatically enables a drag lock if dragging on a touchpad if the finger is near the edge: improving the experience for dragging over larger distances.

Libinput 1.32 also now allows the physical eraser button to be mapped to any button for tablets.

The updated libinput library is also making use of a new systemd 260+ feature with udev for helping to determine if a device is internal or external. More details on today's libinput 1.32 release via the release announcement.
