Square Enix Continues To Impress With Final Fantasy VII Revelation, As TGS 2026 Demo Stuns With Intense Cutscenes And Combat

Tokyo Game Show 2026 has officially begun, giving attendees the chance to try out games launching on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in the coming months. One of the stars of the show is Final Fantasy VII Revelation, which Square Enix is letting the public try out for the first time with a brand new demo, which is being received extremely well, judging from the first impressions of attendees

Amidst the sea of off-screen footage circulating online, the footage captured by @aitaikimochi is the most impressive, as it is direct capture footage that provides a great look at the demo, which is the game's very first chapter, with some tweaks made specifically for Tokyo Game Show 2026. While the battle footage the user shared so far is limited to a single clip, it is impressive enough for a few reasons, as it provides the first look at Jenova Deathmourner, one of Cloud and Vincent's Synergy Abilities, and Vincent's Gates of Hell Limit Break, highlighting the incredible job Naoki Hamaguchi and his team are doing.

What's even more interesting to watch are some of the story sequences available in the Final Fantasy VII Revelation Tokyo Game Show 2026 demo. After defeating Jenova Deathmourner, Sephiroth returns to mess with Cloud again in some rather peculiar ways, including hugging him, which I am sure is going to unleash all sorts of memes. In addition, Barret and Tifa witness what happened in Nibelheim themselves, seeing Zack for the first time as well.

Having had the chance to experience only the game's open-world exploration and combat with little story, I am particularly excited to see where the story will go in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, especially in light of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's ambiguous ending. Hearing Cloud speak with Aerith in his head, in particular, is a great touch that highlights Cloud's delusional state and will likely contribute to the events that unfold right after the battle against Jenova Deathmourner.

Looking at the new footage is also making the wait for Final Fantasy VII Revelation more difficult to bear, as it is, without a doubt, my most anticipated game of early 2027. Thankfully, April 8, 2027, is not that far away.
